Hello Rick,

Currently we do not offer any files by the name sysmenu.dll .

To help you, I would need some more information regarding your error.

What is the exact and complete error message you get regarding this file?
When do you get this error?
Which program is requesting this file?

Which version of Windows are you using?
Is your Windows 32 or 64 bit? http://support.microsoft.com/kb/827218

What have you tried so far for solving this error?

Best regards
Erik

In box has this: There is a problem starting (then it has) C:\PROGRA~1\COMMON~1\System\sysmenu.dll (then below that in that same box) The specified module could not be found. the end of this message. I am using Windows 7 Home Premium, 64 bit. I have tried to CLEAN BOOT SLATE did not solve problem. Please help me resolve these same 3 Run... messages the pop up at start up which it just did as I am typing this to you. THANK YOU , Rick

Hi Rick,

Here is one solution. Since I am unable to find out which program wants this file loaded, the simplest way to get rid of the error, is to stop Windows from attempting to load this file at startup.

1st: Download Auto Runs.

http://download.sysinternals.com/files/Autoruns.zip

Link basis: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb963902.aspx

2nd: Find the yellow highlighted Image Paths that ends with sysmenu.dll. Usually you can locate those image paths from Scheduled Task.

3rd: Right click then delete.

4th: Try to find all yellow highlighted Image Paths that ends with sysmenu.dll from "Everything tabs, delete them.
NOTE: Carefully choose image paths that ends sysmenu.dll only, if you deleted paths that are not high lightened then it might cause some trouble booting your PC.

5th: Reboot Computer

6th: Wait at least 5 minutes to confirm that the issue has been resolved. (sysmenu.dll usually appears within a minute from rebooting the computer. )

I have the same problem and I believe it is my Dashlane account. I have tried to reach them with no response so am hoping you can help. I am fairly new at the computer as well as 67 years old so I may need a little more help that your average person. I am very afraid of doing the wrong thing and deleting the wrong thing but can't afford to hire a technician. I greatly appreciate any help you can give me.

Hi Marcia,

There might be legitimate files by the name sysmenu.dll out there, but this error seem to indicate that you have had a virus or malware installed and later removed.

A file named sysmenu.dll in that requested location seems to be associated with an adware.

A likely culprit is "YTDownloader", which your antivirus might have removed.

To stop the system from attempting to load sysmenu.dll at Windows start, you need to remove the auto start entry for this file.

To do this, you can use the free Microsoft program Autoruns, found at http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb963902.aspx

Open Autoruns, and choose "File" -> "Find". Type in sysmenu.dll and press enter. Remove the check-mark form the chec-kbox on the left side of the entry pointing to sysmenu.dll .

Restart computer, and see if error is gone!

Best regards
Erik
