core library loader

Post by mazari/t »

the problem began with canon scanner program not being able to be used because of a missing dll (compiler 47). That was rectified and then I got the message that the program couldn't be accessed because the api-ms-win-core-libraryloader-l1-2-0-dll is missing from my computer. I have tried to get info from a number of sources but no luck. Meanwhile I can't do system restore (same message), updating keeps telling me I need to update (even though I just have), I can't do a backup, everything is slowing down, my 2 lawnmowers won't work (ok - not relevant, except that I thought the exercise would reduce my frustration, huh, go figure). I have uninstalled numerous programs etc but I'm out of ideas. I am a very average computer user and quite techy deficient - I need help in everyday language. My computer is a Dell Home Premium laptop, 64 bit, win 7 os,
5 years old now (unlike its very aged owner). And a stiff drink would be nice if it wasn't so early in the day. Please can anyone advise me.

Hello mazari/t,

Errors referencing "api-ms-win"* files are commonly caused by missing updates, packages, or bad updates.

Try again updating Windows using Windows Updates;
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/hel ... ows-update

Here are some tips on getting Windows update to work;
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/hel ... ate-errors

Try installing this "Update for Universal C Runtime in Windows"
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2999226

If that is not enough, also install "Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable Packages for Visual Studio" 2013 and 2015.

If using a 32bit (x86) Windows system, install the 32bit (x86) version.
If using a 64bit (x64) Windows system, install both the 32bit (x86), and the 64bit (x64) versions.

Available from Microsoft at;
2013: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/hel ... le-package

If install complains that this package is already installed, do "Repair" or un-install before installing.

Best regards
Erik
