Programs stopped working, linked to a missing DLL.

Post by rex »

A couple of products have stopped working of late.
Using Dependency Walker- I found they were linked to missing DLLs.

Creative ZENCast Organizer (podcasting client for Creative media
players) - depends on ncrypt.dll

Thinkpad Power Manager 1.52 - This is supposed to display a battery
meter in the taskbar, but the Rundll32 call fails on startup. This also
has a missing dependency on ncrypt.dll.

I went through the i386 directory that's copied on my hard drive, but
couldn't find anything named ncrypt.dll.
Looking on Google indicates this might be a Vista DLL, and I'm running
XP SP2.
The above mentioned programs are the correct XP versions; they used to
work earlier.

Finally- I tried running SFC, but the damn thing keeps asking for the
Windows CD and doesn't let me browse the filesystem for the directory.
I'm on a corporate laptop, so don't have the CD media with me.

The last thing I installed was the VC++ 2008 runtime.

Anyone know how to troubleshoot this?
