iTunes 8.0 will not start in XP

Post by mongo »

I have recently downloaded iTunes 8.0 to my computer. This is a new download,
no previous versions. I can not get iTunes to start. When I click the .exe
file, I get a message box that says, "iTunes has encountered a problem and
needs to close". In addition, I get "Quicktime had encountered a problem and
needs to close" when I select it. Here is what I have tried so far.

1. I tried going into Quicktime and de-selecting "safe mode" but I get an
error message "Run dll as an app has encountered a problem and needs to close"
2. I deleted "SC Info" in the iTunes folder.
3. I went to MS Config and deselected load startup items and selected
iTuneshelper and qttask.

I have Norton Systemworks with Internet Security and have disabled it after
the download.

I am not getting any additional answers from Apple. Any help here would be
appreciated.
Thanks.
