I regularly RDP onto an XP machine using a plain-vanilla non-admin user
account that's been added to the Remote Desktop Users group. I also
regularly attach and disconnect a USB hard drive to the machine I'm remoted
onto.
Problem is that the 'Safely Remove Hardware' icon does not show up in task
tray in the RDP session.
If I physically log in to the machine with my non-admin user, I see and can
use the icon. If I RDP with a user account with administrator rights, I see
and can use the icon. How do I get the icon to show up in an RDP session
under a user account without administrator rights?
I figured out that I can use RunAs with an administrator account to run
%windir%\system32\rundll32.exe shell32.dll,Control_RunDLL hotplug.dll and get
a 'Safely Remove Hardware' dialog to come up, but this is awefully clumsy and
not the same functionality as what is offered by the task tray icon.
