I use XP home, SP3. Recently received a missing "shdocvw.dll" and lost my
desktop. I tried to download and reinstall, but dot prompt wasn't
co-operating so I did a system restore which seemed to work. But now nothing
on the desktop or start menu works (shortcuts mainly)--I have been right
clicking and saying open to use anything. Is there a safe place to download
this .dll? Thanks

Re: missing shdocvw.dll
The file is part of Internet Explorer. The file may only have needed to
be re-registered, to register the dll issue the following command at the
Command Prompt:
regsvr32 /shdocvw.dll
The file is often updated via security fixes and Service Packs.

RE: missing shdocvw.dll
Sorry, this has been crazy making. I tried these solutions and nada. So I
did a system recovery with HP's backup disks. My info is there but can't get
it.
HP says do this:
I queried about what to do after this process to retrive my info. Here's
what
it said:
1. Activate Windows Firewall
2. Update Windows
3. Reboot in safe mode as AdministratorClick Administrator and, if
applicable,
enter the password and press Enter .
4. A window will appear asking you for confirmation of keeping in Safe Mode .
Click Yes .
5. Click Start and My Computer . Then, double-click the main hard drive (
C: )
and Documents and Settings .
6. Right-click the folder name of the user account and click Properties .
7. Click Security .
8. Click Advanced .
9. Click Owner
10. Place a check mark in Replace owner on subcontainers and objects
11. apply, save and exit.
Now I have 2 administrators, 2 owners and 2 users and 1 all users.
