Inadvertently deleted gpedit32.dll from xp professional. I've tried to find
this file to reinstall it but could not find it anywhere. Can I just use the
winxp professional disc that I have to repair winxp? Will it reinstall this
file? Or does anyone know where I can find this file and put it in
C:\WINDOWS\system32. I still have gpedit.dll in there. Is that enough?
Help appreciated

Do you have gpedit.dll in C:WINDOWS\system32? The reason I ask is that I
have that and the gpedit32.dll had a trojan file in it and when I deleted
the trojan the file went too. I still have the gpedit.dll. It may be that
the trojan was buried in the gpedit32.dll and this camouflaged the trojan.
The computer seems to have been running well without it.

Gpedit32.dll is a possible trojan, so you may have done well to delete
it. It is not a standard XP file.

Start; Run; gpedit.msc; OK
If it starts without error messages you are fine.
gpedit32.dll is NOT an XP file. However, if it was mimicking
gepedit.dll, via malware, there could be other damage done to your
system that you haven't noticed yet.
Time for an updated AntiVirus scan and to throw your arsenal of
antispyware programs at it to be sure you're as clean as you can
reasonably make your machine. Especially whatever app found the malware
and deleted it for you; run another scan with it just to be certain.
There could be other remnants it didn't catch the first time around.
