Localhost server doesn't work after April 2009 MS Updates

I am unable to run apps in localhost mode all of a sudden after applying the
latest MS updates/patches to XP Pro. I can't run by loading the local server
first and then firing any http;//localhost/isapi/anyprogram.dll/ in either
IE7 or the
latest Firefox. Keep getting HTTP 404 (not found) errors even though the dll
is physically there. Also can't run it by compiling & linking with the
Run | Parameters set correctly (as always). It loads the server, as it
should, but again a 404. This happends with all working DLLs.

Has anyone else experienced this? There does seem to be a similar issue with
this update regarding ASP.NET running IIS locally, but I don't run IIS. Use
OmniHttp instead (for years).

I tested this with firewalls off and antivirus off with admin rights and also
checked the hosts file (OK) and still no go. I am suspecting the update as
the culprit but have no way of proving it and have run out of options.
Can't degug our development without this working. Any thoughts appreciated.

Thanks for the response. That was the correct IE7 update applied. Will
follow thru on your suggestions.

This has been SOLVED but I'll be darned if I know why. Tried loading the
local server anew and running a localhost program (DLL) and it worked.
Nothing that I am aware of changed overnight: No changes, no further updates,
no further boots. Go figure.

Only thing that happened was a backup and AVG scan overnight (scheduled
tasks) but nothing in the virus vault or history.

Also had to change my MS Live ID password today, which bothers me. Wondering
if, in spite of efforts to prevent it, I have some evil program lurking
somewhere. At least I'm productive again.

No, but the password I used with my Live ID user name didn't work on repeated
attempts, though it did yesterday. So, I went through the "forgot password"
routine which changes it. The new one worked. I looked at the URL carefully
and it was a legit, secure msn.com address -- not a phishing expedition.
Appreciate the note, however. Staying vigilant.

Well, I agree with you there but I essentially did what your link re accounts
said. Don't use Hotmail. Will be on the outlook for any other odd behavior
(I'm fairly techie).
