Recently I fitted a 3rd SATA II hard disk connected to a 2 port SATAII pci-e
x1 card, and I've just noticed that three folders have appeared on it :-
3cc867c09f61477e3875f2726b
....and two others with directory names similar to that above, inside two are
folders called "update" with files called update.exe in them, and the third
one also has a file called setupapi.dll
Any idea what's going on here, as my XP Home ed. pathname variables have not
been changed recently ?
i..e why would XP start taking making use of my new hd when theres' tons of
room on the others ?
regards, Richard

As long as you can use the hard drive i repeat ONLY USE THIS METHOD IF YOU CAN USE YOUR HARD DRIVE E.G. ADD AND REMOVE FILES TO IT.
1. Open up notepad and type 'command.com'.
2. Then go 'file', 'save as', call it cmd.bat and change the save type as from 'Text Documents (*.txt)' to 'All Files'. Then click save and save it to the root directory of your new hard drive.
3. Open up cmd.bat and type 'rmdir 3cc867c09f61477e3875f2726b'. It will then delete that directory.
4. Repeat step 3 but replace 3cc867c09f61477e3875f2726b with the other folder name. repeat this untill all folders are gone.
Hope this helps =]

Re: ...mysterious folders appeared...
The 2 subfolders containing "update" were created when the system
installed Windows updates. They *should* have been deleted when the
system was rebooted. The reason they were written to the newer HD was
that it has the *most* available free space. That's just the way
Automatic Updates uses free space, even if there's 'tons of room on the
others'.
As to the 3rd folder ... did you disable System Restore on the drive ?
If not, that's the most likely culprit for it being created.
