no applications will work

Post by carl43m »

I was turning off my pc earlier and then restarted it. However, now not one
of my applications will work--not many of the microsoft office products or
any games nor internet explorer. Whenever I click on an item I get a message
that dll failed to initialize and below it a message saying application
failed to initialize because windows station is shutting down.

Any suggestions on what to do next--I can't run anything. My security suite
runs and I have scanned pc but no virus identified.

Hopefully it's not too late, but put your computer in Safe Mode (Click on
F8 key when booting) and select "Restore Computer To Last Known Good
Configuration"

Last Known Good only works if a user is unable to successfully log into
windows. In this case the user has "successfully" logged on, so this is the
last known good configuration.

HMMM... Hi my name is Kaja and I would like to try to help you. First off I
have some questions I would like to ask you to better help me to help you.
1. Do you have antivirus software and if so what kind is it?
2. Do you have any spyware/malware detection software such as Malware
Bytes, Spyware Terminator, Spybot S&D, etc?
3. Who is your internet service provider? Have you called their technical
support to help get you connected because I can help you more if you get
connected. Please call your Internet Service Provider ask for tech support
and see if they can get you connected to the internet.
4. Are you on a netwok or do you just use one single computer?
5. Did you install or unistall any programs recently?
6. How do you connect? Dial up or DSL. If DSL do you connect hardwired or
wireless?

I know there a lot of questions but, if you answer them for me I will do my
best to help you.

Best Regards,
Kaja

Hi Bookman:

Normally I would agree with you, but I had a recent case where I had
resolved some laptop issues and everything was fine. A day or two later I
uninstalled some printer software and upon reboot I found the same problems
that I had corrected previously.

I then rebooted into SafeMode and used Restore To Last Known Good
Configuration and it corrected the issue.
