Just did Windows Repair. Screen Microsoft.Net Framework is now stuck on my

application" Details show:
See the end of this message for details on invoking

************** JIT Debugging **************
To enable just in time (JIT) debugging, the config file for this
application or machine (machine.config) must have the
jitDebugging value set in the system.windows.forms section.
The application must also be compiled with debugging
enabled.

For example:

<configuration>
<system.windows.forms jitDebugging="true" />
</configuration>

When JIT debugging is enabled, any unhandled exception
will be sent to the JIT debugger registered on the machine
rather than being handled by this dialog.

A screen "Photo Gallery" also appears with the Net Framework screen which I
clicked on cancel but it only cancels about 80%.
I
I cannot Restart or shut down my computer, but as you can see, I can my
America On Line application.

I have WIN XP Home Edition which now shows SP1 after I did the WIN repair. I
have a diskfor SP2, but cannot install it since I cannot close the MS .Net
Framework or Photo Gallery screens. :-(

Please help this poor old gramma.
I was able to run AVG Anti-Virus with no infections; however, my Resident
Shield now shows no driver.

RE: Cannot Restart or Turn off comp

Post by gramma »

No posts yet, so found that I could turn off Net Framework and Photo Gallery
screens in Task Manager, was able then to Restart, but...Photo Gallery screen
still comes up!

So inserted original GW OS WIN XP Home Ed disk to do clean install showing:
"76317 MB Disk 0 at Id 0 on bus 0 on atapi (MBR)...C: Partition1 (NTFS)
76309MB (72583 MB free)...Unpartitioned space 8 MB."
Selections are to set up on the highlighted partion, create partition in
unpartitioned space, or...Delete partition.
My concern is that there is only 72583 MB free so I ask which I should do
before I proceed with clean install.

Also, I have both an original GW OEM OS disk WIN XP Home Ed w/SP1, but also
a retail WIN XP Homed Ed w/SP2. Do I understand that it is best to use the
original OEM disk because some required files are not on the retail version?
I suspect that both have been installed at times, thus my decision to clean
install to delete all previous installations. Sure need your help please!

If you're going to do a clean install it doesn't matter what the free
space is since the GW disk will most likely wipe out everything before
reinstalling. That does however depend on if the GW disk is a retstore disk
that will return the OS to factory condition or not.

Re: Cannot Restart or Turn off comp

Post by gramma »

OK, guess you mean to disconnect my printer first (am embarrassed about all
the HP garbage I transmitted w/o knowing) so have disconnected both printer
and scanner.

Good advice on original GW disk; have both Drivers and Applications disks
which came with, but have had problem with when inserting original GW OS
disk, get msg "WIN Setup. App failed to initiate properly (Oxc0000006)".
(???) But no problem with retail disk. Suggestions on that?

Also, if I do get back into GW disk setup, then my ? on the 3 choices, do I
go ahead and select the one highlighted for me; i.e., if I do will it add or
overwrite what is shown, or do I have to delete that highlighted partition?

(Messenger screen just came up here saying I had a serious problem with
recommendation to a web site for regrenew, but am ignoring that for now.)
Please stay tuned.

initely use the GW OS disk because there is bound to be some

The disks are not interchangeable, but have very similar file sets. It is
true that some OEMs do not include some extras like ntbackup, but the
differences are minor.

Look for the XP COA sticker on the back of your PC, which has the
25-character install key.

If there is a COA sticker, then your system has an OEM install. Use the
OEM CD.

The Retail install key is not on the CD, it is on the sleeve or packaging
for the CD. This must *not* be discarded.

Programs like the Magical Jellybean keyfinder and Belarc Advisor will
display the install code, so you can match the running key with the install
CD. Note, nowever, that some OEMs use an install process that doesn't use
the key on the COA.

Finally, a clean install means that you are wiping the disk, and that is
likely serious overkill for the problem you're experiencing.

Since the disk will be wiped, all data will be removed. Be sure you have
backups before you proceed.
