Installing IE8, iexplore.exe not there

Post by richard fangnail »

Today my IE7 became damaged and disappeared from my desktop. I
downloaded the install file for IE8 and ran it. It seemed to install
but there was no iexplore.exe file in the C\Program Files\Internet
Explorer folder. Many other files are there with dates ranging from
today to 2002.

I went to AddRemove Programs and IE8 was listed so I removed it, and
then I ran the download file. Again, there's no exe file (except the
crash reporter) but lots of DLL files etc.

Anyone know what's wrong?? (when asked for updates during install, I
said no).

Thanks

IE doesn't "become damaged" by itself. You did something to damage it.
With your other issues from your other numerous threads, the only sane
thing for you to do at this point is copy your data and perform a Clean
Install. Feel free to start a new thread (I'm serious!) to ask for
guidance. Shenan's posts are probably the most detailed and helpful.

The second best thing to do is make an image of your hard drive once you
have it the way you want it (SP3 installed plus subsequent updates, all
your programs installed, settings the way you want them, etc.). That
way, if you ever run into any problem, simply restore the image and your
system will be primo once more.

True, it takes some time to start fresh. But it's time to cut your
losses. Seriously.

Try using/clicking the Add/Remove Windows Components on the left pane of the
Add or Remove Programs window. In Windows Components Wizard that appears
uncheck Internet Explorer if its checked to uninstall it or check it if its
uncheck to reinstall it then click the "Next" button below.

Rey, thank you - that caused the iexplore.exe to show up.
