WMP ???

Post by alex clayton »

Did something happen with the WMP 11? I was looking at some MP3s on Amazon
today. Downloaded 1 and it would not play on the WMP. I keep getting a
message about dll has a version ( bunch of numbers) were more( numbers) was
expected. WMP is not installed correctly and must be re installed. do you
want to install player from MS site. I tried several times and it just
bounces me from one place to another on their site. I tried to delete WMP
from PC thinking I could re load it, and in the control panel for doing so
it's as if it does not even exist. Is it hidden somewhere?
I finally tried loading a Real player and it works fine. Just wonder what
the hell has happened to the WMP.
Vista Home Premium with all the up dates if it matters.
Thanks

Well I'll be damned, that worked. It always scares hell out of me trying to
do stuff like that. I always have a vision of hitting enter after all that
and getting the BSOD. <G>
Anyway the WMP now works again, thanks!!

Did you use a registry cleaner? It's a good way to screw up Vista.

Microsoft doesn't provide a way to reinstall WMP 11 on Vista.

If you didn't have SP2 installed, you could have tried installing that. It
installs a newer version of WMP 11 then the one that comes with Vista.

You could try System Restore.

If that doesn't work you will probably have to reinstall Vista to get WMP 11
back, unless you can track down all the files that make up WMP 11 and
reregister all the files.

I don't know precisely what is the problem.
One thing I do know is, WMP will not play anything you downloaded from
itune, which requires Real Player for itune mp3s.

iTunes files downoad in ACC format so that may be why you think that.
But once you use iTunes to convert them to MP3 they play fine in WMP
or any other media player.WMP player is ok but there are better
players IMO. Check out the below free media player or maybe
foobar2000, MediaMonkey or JRiver Jukebox. All are good but I like
AIMP2 the best.

I have a couple MP3 Players, one for music one for Pod casts of radio.
Neither is an Apple product so I have never bothered with I Tunes. I rarely
use WMP anyway, normally only to check something out if I can't remember for
sure what it was, before I load it on a player. I did use WM for
transferring all my CD's to Digital back many years ago because the PC used
it as default and I had no idea what I was doing, and it just worked for
someone who had no clue how to do this. Now when there is some song I want
but don't want to buy the whole CD I will buy it from Amazon in MP3. I was
just using the WMP to make sure it was the song I wanted after I bought it
and all of a sudden the damn thing would not work. The link mae sent worked
great. Even for someone like me who is scared to death to try stuff like
that I tried it and no BSOD, it just fixed whatever the hell was wrong. <G>
Thanks again mae

WMP (don't remember the release) just disappeared from my system and I
was told unanimously on this ng that I would have to do a complete
restore. I chose instead to d/l a couple of freebies (Magic Monkey and
Winamp). Several months later WMP just magically reappeared for some
reason unknown to me. Who was the smartass who decided that they
wouldn't put Sys Repair in Vista? It seems that things at MS have gone
to hell since Gates retired. Things reached a climax a few days ago when
Ballmer, whose main talent seems to be screaming, blamed the Vista
problems on Beta testers! Lots of Beta testers said they reported
problems and were ignored. Mr. Ballmer, blame the people that MS pays
generously (including yourself) rather than unpaid volunteers. And, in
the mood of the season, let's declare Vista to be the official Haunted
Software.
