cannot boot up missing hal.dll

Post by princepes »

Running XP Hime, Boot-up I get an error that hal.dll is missing or corrupt
<Windows root>\system32\hal.dll. >
f2 and f8 as well as f10 doze nothing screen come up with the same error,
missing or corrupt <Windows root>\system32\hal.dll. >
I put in the XP disk and boot-up from CD, But it still comes up with ths
same error
How do I get to the DOS prompt to possibly install these files? Thank You
for any and all assistance/suggestions provided to rectify this situation.

You have to set the BIOS boot order to boot from CD first. Put the XP CD in
the drive and reboot the computer. When you see the "Press any key to boot
from CD" prompt, press any key to boot from the CD. If you don't have an "Any
Key" key on your keyboard, buy one from a novelty store.

See the following KB article detailing how to replace the hal.dll file:
