Dll Files Wont Register

Post by wmb »

Windows XP(Home) SP3, OE6, IE8; 1.5Gb RAM & plenty of HHD space. Continuous
checks for Virus/Malware. No e-mail scanning.

Hi,

I have two dll files that will not Register in the normal manner.
shdocvw.dll and Mshtml.dll. Normal manner: Start>Run>enter Regsvr32
shdocvw.dll or Regsvr32 mshtml.dll >OK. shdocvw.dll returns a error that it
failed and Mshtml.dll returns and error that no entry point could be found.
Would a viable solution be to download the two files from
http://www.dll-files.com/ and replace the 2 files on my computer with the
downloaded files after backing up the original 2 files? My hesitation stems
from the fact that the size of the 2 downloaded files are of a different
size then the originals and by quite a bit. Any help will be appreciated.
Any differing procedures will be of help. Thanks again.

Replacing a dll is a bad idea as with the system file checker they will be
re-replaced with the originals in the dllcache folder i think. I would try
to do a sfc /scannow thing instead, then try to register again.

Hi, i ran sfc /scannow but it did not make any difference. Neither dll
would register. I then performed a Repair Install of XP. Afterwards, i
could register 1 of the dll files, shdocvw.dll. Still unable to register
mshtml.dll. Any other suggestions? Thanks for the help so far.
