Help with reboot and event viewer entries

Post by rock »

Hi,

My XP Pro box has been rebooting every now and then without warning and
I have looked at the Event Viewer to find these entries. The first is
at the bottom.

It mentions AVG 9 Free a bit.

Any help please?

rock

Faulting application thunderbird.exe, version 1.8.20090.15674, faulting
module thunderbird.exe, version 1.8.20090.15674, fault address 0x002481eb.
--------
Faulting application avgchsvx.exe, version 9.0.0.676, faulting module
ntdll.dll, version 5.1.2600.3520, fault address 0x0000100b.
------------
Faulting application avgchsvx.exe, version 9.0.0.676, faulting module
avgchjwx.dll, version 9.0.0.709, fault address 0x00044875.
------------
MS DTC started with the following settings:

Security Configuration (OFF = 0 and ON = 1):
Network Administration of Transactions = 0,
Network Clients = 0,
Inbound Distributed Transactions using Native MSDTC Protocol = 0,
Outbound Distributed Transactions using Native MSDTC Protocol = 0,
Transaction Internet Protocol (TIP) = 0,
XA Transactions = 0
------

The description for Event ID ( 1 ) in Source ( avg9emc ) cannot be
found. The local computer may not have the necessary registry
information or message DLL files to display messages from a remote
computer. You may be able to use the /AUXSOURCE= flag to retrieve this
description; see Help and Support for details. The following information
is part of the event: Service started.
--------
Faulting application avgchsvx.exe, version 9.0.0.676, faulting module
avgchjwx.dll, version 9.0.0.709, fault address 0x00044875.

Drop AVG, use Avira AntiVir.

Scan with MalwareBytes.

CHKDSK and then Defragment the drive.

Ensure Windows XP and all installed applications are fully updated.
