ntdll.dll - insuffficient permission

Post by profluid »

I am trying to activate remote desktop connection to a WinServ 12 R2 on a Win 8.1 client and got this message:
Unhandled exception at 0x00007FFB87C21B70 (ntdll.dll) in mstsc.exe: 0xC0000374: Ein Heap wurde beschädigt (parameters: 0x00007FFB87C5ED40).)"

Thus I downloaded the client software to repair ntdll.dll, but even as admin the system blocks me with "unsufficient permission".

Has anyone an idea how to procede?

Hello Profluid,

The ntdll.dll is a system file that is likely in use whenever you are using Windows.

You can not replace a file in use.

This error most likely has another cause than a broken ntdll.dll .

You might be helped by the instructions at https://community.spiceworks.com/how_to ... dows-8-pro

Same question on ntdll.dll but Windows 10 Pro

I am administrator and the only user on this computer.
I bought this because I thought you had some magic to get around the permissions, such as 'trustedInstaller' but I guess not.

Does the app have to be run from safe mode?

BTW ntdll.dll is the problem according to the event viewer

Hello Lief,

The file ntdll.dll is used by most programs running on Windows.

As long as it is in use, you will not be able replace it.

APPCRASH errors like this can be very tricky to solve. The issue is often not in the mentioned file itself, but caused by something else.

What information is available to you in Event Viewer regarding this APPCRASH?

I believe that Windows would not be able to start properly if the ntdll.dll was actually damaged.

When does this APPCRASH happen?
Is it always the same action that prompts it?

Are you up to date with Windows Updates?

Do you have an NVIDIA graphics card?
Make sure to install the latest available drivers and software.

Have you noticed any other issues on your computer since this error started?
