Am running Win XP, I thought SP2, thought I see SP3 in Add/Remove
Programs.
In Windows Explorer, it's not an uncommon problem for the thumbnail
view of graphics and/or html files to mysteriously disappear and only
the icon of the associated program displays. This happens sometimes
even when no new software has been installed as is suggested in some
places.
In the past, I have corrected this one of two ways:
(1) Start | Run regsvr32 thumbvw.dll
(2) http://support.microsoft.com/kb/192573
Of course I've tried the usual things such as changing from thumbnail
view to detailed view and back again, choosing to not cache thumbnails.
After doing items 1 and 2 above, what I'm left with is thumbnails, but
not of the whole image. Windows Explorer is displaying a closeup
snapshot of a "part" of the image. There is no corruption of the files.
When opening jpgs with my usual graphics program, the entire image is
present.
Additionally, in any given folder containing jpgs, only some of them
display a partial image. Others show a blank square until I click once
on it, then the partial thumbnail image appears. Where the blank square
ones are now, it was showing the icon of the associated program. I
apologize, but after reading umpteen pages and hours and hours trying to
solve this problem, my brain is getting foggy and I don't recall the
last step I did that changed from icons to blank squares - either way,
as soon as I clicked once on it, the partial thumbnail appeared.
For what it's worth, I have the following registry setting:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Explorer\Thumbnail View
with Auto Extract DWORD value of 0x00000001(1).
Perhaps someone who has thumbnails working property could tell me what
their registry setting is. The only other entry in that registry entry
is Default, which says (value not set).
Hoping to bypass this problem, I also downloaded Magellan Explorer,
which has the same functions as Windows Explorer. But, in thumbnail
view, it demonstates the same problems.
Many thanks for any possible help. Being able to view these thumbnails
is vital to productivity in my business.
