My Windows Sidebar contains:
en-US folder
Gadgets folder
Shared Gadgets folder
sbdrop.dll
settings.ini
sidebar.exe
wlsrvc.dll
My Friends Sidebar contains;
Gadgets folder
ExerienceCenter folder
Images folder
js folder
Both work O.K.
My friends sfc /scannow reports reports a problem.
The CBS,log reports that the sidebar settings.ini
file can not be repaired.
But there is none.
Any suggestions on where to go from here?
thank you, anne

Disable sidebar in taskbar, navigate to to
*C:\Users\<account>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Sidebar* and remove
*settings.ini* and then restart sidebar.System will create new
settings.ini.

SFC manifest might be corrupted. Strange we rely on SFC to scan for corrupt
system files, but it can't kept track of them either.

Thanks for pointing our where the settings.ini file is.
I followed your instructions and then rebooted. The sidebar came up with a
couple of random gadgets. I closed them and created the ones I usually use.
I ran sfc /scannow and got the same result. Now I'm thinking I may have a
corrupt gadget.
I'm using myself as the one with the problem, but it's really a friend. I'll
have my
friend close all the gadgets tomorrow, rebuild the ini file again and give
sfc
another try.
Will let you and Tae Song know how this worked out.

Re: Sidebar
I think any non-system gadgets don't work properly, cause problems and
you have to uninstall them (leave only default gadgets) + rebuild again
settings.ini (my previous post)
If still no help try below:

I want to thank you again for your help.
We still have the same problem.
Bottom line:
Windows Sidebar works perfectly, but I believe this version has a bug that
misleads the sfc into thinking there's a problem.

I think it's actually SFC and not Sidebar. Even SFC seems to have trouble
keeping track of all the system files on Vista.

You're absolutely right.
Since the sidebar is working O.K.
Who knows.
This is the end of this topic and once again, thank you both.
