Second Monitor Not Working

Post by el.plates »

I have just plugged in a second monitor on my PC using a DVI MALE TO VGA
FEMALE MONITOR ADAPTER / CONVERTER. The primary monitor is using VGA.
Card name: NVIDIA GeForce 7300 LE
Manufacturer: NVIDIA
Chip type: GeForce 7300 LE
DAC type: Integrated RAMDAC
Device Key: Enum\PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_01D1&SUBSYS_04051028&REV_A1
Display Memory: 888 MB
Dedicated Memory: 121 MB
Shared Memory: 766 MB
Current Mode: 1024 x 768 (32 bit) (60Hz)
Monitor: Generic PnP Monitor
Driver Name: nvd3dum.dll
Driver Version: 8.15.0011.8585 (English)
DDI Version: 9Ex
Driver Attributes: Final Retail
Driver Date/Size: 4/30/2009 22:02:00, 7593472 bytes
WHQL Logo'd: Yes

My problem is that I cant get the second monitor to display anything - it
does briefly show images for a second or so during system boot up.
Any help on this greatly appreciated,
TIA

On your Vista,
Right click on desktop, Personalize.
Choose Display Settings.
Click second monitor. Drag it to the correct position (left-right, up or
down).
Click "Extend the desktop onto this monitor".
OK

Have done that but still have the same problem. Have also noticed that when
I switch off and back on the second monitor I also get a very brief page
display and then black screen.

Maybe the second monitor is not a good one. Have you tired it on another
system?

Having read through the thread it seems like maybe you are using a refresh
rate that is too high for the 2nd monitor. Either install a driver for the
2nd monitor which will tell the video card what the optimal refresh rate is
for it or set the refresh rate manually.

On the Display Settings dialog box, hit Advanced Settings... button. Select
Monitor tab and check box Hide modes that this monitor cannot display. Set
Screen refresh rate: to about 60Hz. I have a driver installed for Samsung
930B and it tells me it can only handle up to 75Hz, but the video card can
put out a refresh rate of about 120Hz. Way too high for the monitor to
handle.
