Boot-up problem

Intermittently, I get the following error on boot-up "Faulting application
svchost.exe, version 5.1.2600.2180, faulting module ntdll.dll, version
5.1.2600.2180, fault address 0x00018fea."
When this happens, my integrated sound card does not operate in all
applications.
I have properties checked in "System" and all is OK.
I have checked my "Sounds and audio devices" in Control Panel which shows no
device selected, but when I go to the hardware tab, the device is working
properly.
