Problem Description: Win XPPro auto updates, came in and tryed to use and no
go. win boots up and welcome screen appears. then drops to a dark blue blank
screen. the only user service listed is taskmanager, no explorer, mind you
that is explorer not iexplore. Attempted to start the service via a dos
prompt safe mode and indicates I don't have auth. Attempted to reinstall
dirty OS. will not boot to CD, can copy cab files fm CD to HD and expand them
freely, no go. Sys still not boot properly. Will not restore w/ system
restore. Any suggestions how to remove policy blocks that prevent me form
starting explorer service? belive the command I used to attempt the start svc
was: sc start explorer.exe I was in the Windows directory at the time. tried
it in system and system32 dir's also. kinda stumped here, this is the 3rd
day... finally managed to ge an internet explorer page to popup and it
allowes full surfing of internet, on this otherwise crippled machine. The day
before this crash she indicated it popped up some bluescreen errors. she
notted one and it indicated a " STOP:C0000135(Unable to locate componet)
This...Because vct3216.dll was not found, re-install. we have not had such a
dll that I am aweare of, nor can I locate one anywhere else. My pref would be
to enforce a dirty reinstall of OS but could if absolutly nessessary make it
a clean install if we can force it to respond. Operating System: Windows XP

Wow. Next time consider using paragraphs with white space and perhaps
numbered or bulleted points. This post is *very* hard to read.
1. Retrieve any data that didn't make it into your regular backups by
booting with a Linux Live CD such as Knoppix and copying the files to an
external hard drive or USB thumb drive.
2. Test the hard drive and RAM at least perfunctorily to make sure they are
viable.
3. Do a clean install of Windows.

4. Scan your backed-up data with a current, updated antivirus before copying
it back to your new clean installation. Recommended programs are NOD32
(commercial), Avast or Avira if you need a free antivirus.

That's for sure. My eyes glazed over and I just went on to the next
message.
