MEB, you sometimes answer posts with information which is helpful. BUT
the traffic cop approach (e.g. your response to 98Guy's post in this
thread) is just nauseating. It's been addressed before. Don't you have
anything better to do with your time than act as this groups traffic
cop?

We all know this NG addresses an 11 year old (read: ELEVEN YEAR OLD)
operating system, superceded by ME, W2K, XP, Vista, Win7. It is followed
by few people, many of whom (such as myself) *APPRECIATE* ANY WAY TO
CONTINUE USING W98 as technology RACES away!! GET IT? And don't you
think people using an operating system ELEVEN YEARS OLD have SOME
experience with operating systems and realize W98 is UNSUPPORTED and
subject to all kinds of malicious intrusion (BTW; as is *ANY* OS, READ
*ANY* , *ANY*, *ANY* OS), or do you think people are incapable of taking
care of these matters and NEED you acting as a trumpet and their
protector?

Come on, give us a break with that nonsense. I'd like to continue to see
you address posts in a helpful, not HATEFUL manner as is the case here.
Wouldn't you rather be though of as HELPFUL instead of your NOW
perceived participation as an irritant!

Thanks to 98Guy for keeping us updated with these mods to keep W98
going!

I for one don't always use them but keep information in the back of my
mind or even archive it for possible future use. And like MANY, I want
to keep W98 alive as long as possible (because I use it)!

OK guys, after MEBs response to my post I had to do it, after probably
10 years of not having to block senders, I had to do it. So now it's
done. *ALL* MEBs posts are deleted from my system and will no longer
even see them on the system (hurray!).

Sorry MEB (for you), you are just acting too weird!
How old are you? Acting like a self-righteous juvenile, I hope you are
not an OLD man! GROW-UP!

Do YOU think YOU supply anything of value here...

These are DEFINITELY *not* the way to achieve longer use of the 9X OS.
What part instill NEW AND UNKNOWN vulnerabilities escapes your mental
faculties. Or is it you think that these provide fixes when they are NOT
designed for the 9X OS and the way IT functions, AND are completely
unknown to any available protections used with the 9X OS protection
applications. Perhaps its just that you don't think...

Well good luck, and WHY don't you provide some actual test results for
9X users, you know something useful... rather than spouting this garbage.

HEHEHEHE, so you won't see this then, too bad... those that do should
remember that most of the parties making non-standard installation
recommendations haven't used 9X for several years except MAYBE to play
around with occasionally. Many never use Windows at all...

These non-standard file installations are a bad idea, and DO introduce
unknowns {including files never found in 9X except for special needs}
into the stable environment left by EOL. IF you need a browser then find
one that provides the functionality and MORE that IE6 once provided
rather than non-tested files.

As for Media Player, there are numerous players available, many still
being created and updated, and supply 9X capability. The best thing per
Media Player is to BLOCK its access to the Internet altogether, and if
necessary, use something else, generally WITHOUT the DRM and massive
bloat. As for additional codex, there are some available to extend the
capabilities of Media Player....

A post like his - like this one - is suggesting you consider withholding
your reflex (i. e. [knee-]jerk) reaction to any 98Guy post. If our
suggestions have no effect, i. e. you will continue to post one of your
templates (I see you have a new one - oh joy; at least it's shorter this
time) whenever 98G posts, then indeed we shouldn't bother. (Though I
hope I do occasionally post helpful answers to others - probably someone
watching does too.)

Perhaps you could say what _is_ - other than keeping it in aspic, virgin
and untouched? Thinking about it, I don't think I have ever seen YOU
post anything about any update, for any part of '98. Maybe you've never
found any that satisfy your rigorous testing requirements.

Comments like that only serve to diminish what your i. c. looks like
(not to me - I assume you don't care what I think, like you don't
someone watching - I mean to the hypothetical innocent whom you appear
to be trying to protect).

For once I will refrain from saying why don't you provide some, because
as I say I can't remember - recently, anyway - you providing any details
of any updates at all.

Okay, *YOU* provide the test results; SHOW 9X users they provide
functionality and no new vulnerabilities... give them something to
review so they can make an intelligent and informed decision...

You're right I don't care... I said that before... and you two are
hardly innocents..

BECAUSE THERE ARE NONE... 9X is EOL. It ended support life with a
finite set of vulnerabilities, change those and you have NO idea what
you do have.
You want fixes then do like you're SUPPOSED to do, search for
programmers providing ACTUAL DESIGNED FOR 9X applications... guess what,
there are some still doing so.

Actually nimrods, I have tested 9X betas, win3 betas, XP betas, and the
OSs, Linux compilations, and thousands of applications, AND posted to
the programmers.
WHILE doing legal work, my regular work, a computer business, AND a
couple hobbies. Now what is it EXACTLY that you have done in your POS

Because you POS, I put my time in MS products... as I told the group I
was done testing, and even extended testing until it became impossible
to use 9X on the Internet, now a couple months ago.
YOU test them, you CLAIM there good files and fix 9X but you have
NOTHING upon which to base that do you..., but WE know you are incapable
of testing anything... but quite willing to pull posts from others while
claiming they are yours, *TRYING* to appear intelligent.
It might work except you don't know what you've posting means... just
as you haven't a CLUE about the files or vulnerabilities, security, nor
anything else you have posted here and elsewhere...

You would have already SEEN these test and things if you weren't just a
