call of duty multiplayer help!

hey i have windows 7 and call of duty 1 (i know its sad)
when i try to play multiplayer on cod 1, an error message comes up and says user interface 7, expected 9. I have also found another codMP application. it told me to download mss32.dll which i did but i dont know where to put the extracted files. i also tried to google cod 1 troubleshooting but none were good. plz help
